The Frankfurt Institute for Risk Management and Regulation (FIRM) is an institute that wishes to set new standards in the field of risk management and regulation. Located at the two Frankfurt universities - the Goethe University and the Frankfurt School of Finance and Management, it supports relevant research projects (under the supervision of the House of Finance of the Goethe University) and will begin its teaching operations as of the summer semester of 2010 with an extra-occupational Master's of Risk Management & Regulation, along with a certificate programme (managed by the Frankfurt School of Finance and Management). Two high-ranking representatives of the two universities, Prof. Dr. Wolfgang König from the House of Finance of the Goethe University and Prof. Dr. Udo Steffens from the Frankfurt School of Finance and Management, have assumed the leadership of the institute as presidents. The institute is supported by the Gesellschaft für Risikomanagement und Regulierung e.V. (Society for Risk Management and Regulation) which was founded in June 2009 and which is involved with well-known banks as well as service providers, associations and the state of Hesse.
The Frankfurt Institute for Risk Management and Regulation (FIRM) has awarded a total of 300,000 euros for 2009 and 2010 to support research projects. The institute published a Call for Research Project Proposals. The deadline for 2010 is 17.05.10. You can find out more under“ Research”.
The FIRM made its first public appearance at the annual conference of the German Finance Association (DGF) on 09-10 October at the House of Finance. The “Risk Management after the Crisis – Academia meets Industry” panel discussion was exclusively hosted by the FIRM. Members of the FIRM management board, Wolfgang Hartmann and Frank Westhoff discussed the lessons and consequences of the financial crisis with Prof. Ammann (University of St. Gallen) and Prof. Franke (University of Konstanz).
